چکیده

The storage capacity of hard disk drives has increased tremendously over the last decade. However, the rate of increase has reached a bottle-neck as the technology approaches a theoretical limit known as the super-paramagnetic limit. Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) has emerged as one of the important technologies to overcome this limit. The process of heating while writing brings about certain unique characteristics when compared to conventional schemes. In this paper, we introduce heatassisted recording, explain the techniques used to numerically model the twodimensional magnetization process in longitudinal HAMR and extend it to perpendicular recording. Utilizing these models, we investigate the transition characteristics that depend, among other factors, on various thermal parameters. In particular, we determine the effects of change in peak temperature and laser spot position on transition length and center.

Investigating the effect of magnetic field on the forced convection of cross-corrugated triangular channels

Cross-corrugated triangular channels increase heat transfer in heat exchangers. The mixing effect increases the heat transfer coefficient at the surfaces. In this study, the fluid flow and heat transfer in a triangular corrugated channel are modeled under two constant heat fluxes and different Reynolds numbers. In order to validate, k-ω turbulence model is used. Also, the effect of magnetic fie...

Patterned medium for heat assisted magnetic recording

Heat assisted magnetic recording HAMR is a potential solution to extend the limits of conventional magnetic recording. In HAMR, the heating of the recording medium is achieved with a near-field optical transducer. Although the literature suggests novel transducers, there is little consideration of the optical and thermal aspects of the magnetic medium. In this letter we suggest a recording medi...

Nanoscale ridge aperture as near-field transducer for heat-assisted magnetic recording.

Near-field transducer based on nanoscale optical antenna has been shown to generate high transmission and strongly localized optical spots well below the diffraction limit. In this paper, nanoscale ridge aperture antenna is considered as near-field transducer for heat-assisted magnetic recording. The spot size and transmission efficiency produced by ridge aperture are numerically studied. We sh...
